A 700-pound alligator captured in Mississippi is the heaviest ever in the state and is one of the heaviest ever caught in the world. Hunters caught the gator at a private hunting ranch, and it took four people to reel the beast in.

"It was an hour and a half of pure tug-of-war and chaos before we finally had him restrained," Tom Grant, the hunter who snagged the alligator, told GrindTV.  "When we snagged the alligator with two rod and reel snatch hooks, we knew he was big, we just didn't know he would be this big."

The alligator, weighing in at 697.5 pounds, breaks the previous record of 690.5 pounds, officials said, which was caught in the same area last year.

"This is not the first record to come from Issaquena County and probably will not be the last,"  Ricky Flynt, Alligator Program Coordinator for the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries & Parks told GrindTV.
